Bike-Hike ’10 Huge Success

Bike-Hike’10 was held on April 17, 2010, at three sites: Down the Toe Path at Lackawaxen in Wallenpaupack, at Wayne Highlands Middle School in Honesdale and at Damascus School in Damascus. Due to the uncertain weather, the Wayne Highlands hikes moved to the school facilities and held an indoor Bike-Hike Event. The events were very successful with about $14,000.00 being pledged in Honesdale and Damascus and $20, 000.00 in Wallenpaupack.

Winners in the Damascus were: Brea Rutledge, Victoria Tyler, Jarod Smith, Brett Diehl, Carissa Wood, Brianna Flora, Seth Miller, Carmen Rutledge, Amelia Keesler and Jacob Turner. Brea Rutledge, Victoria Tyler, Brett Diehl, Carissa Wood and Seth Miller were returning pledge gathers, as all placed last year. Winners in the Wallenpaupack School District event included Mason Bouger, Stephanie Roby, Alyssa Cuossman, Lexi Walutes, Nick Bates, CJ Houman, David Austin, Michael Hogan, John Pillar, Kristian Sonsteby, James Mendolia, Kelly Pevez, Shannon Vennie and Kim Kunah. Kristian Sonsteby and John Pillar were returning high pledge winners from ’08.

Winners in the Honesdale Event were Sabrina Wood, Chad Scholl, Tristan Protzman, Charles Pykus, Samantha Pykus, Ronnie Giblin, Cheyanna Stoddard, Tristan Krause, Carley Riefler, Megan Dulay, Jack Brooks, Hannah Luben, Olivia Galarza and Peirce St. Clair. Sabrina Wood, Chad Scholl, Tristan Protzman, Charles Pykus, Cheyanna Stoddard, Tristan Krause, Megan Dulay and Pierce St. Clair were also top pledge getters in the ’08 event.

The purpose of the Bike-Hike is to fund the Dyberry Day Camp. The Camp, which is sponsored by The Arc, Wayne County, functions during the month of July to provide leisure time activities for developmentally disabled school age individuals. This year the Camp is celebrating 37 years of existence. Students from the Wallenpaupack and Wayne Highlands School Districts have been participating as volunteers and learning how to reach out to others during this time. It is a tribute to the community that the event has remained so successful over the past 35 years!
